In 1979 Ridley Scott directed ALIEN which is one of the most influential sci-fi horror movies to date, the movie had such an epic cast which made the movie an instant cult classic and a movie that I often go back to. The main star was Sigourney Weaver who played the role of Ripley, and with the rest of the crew; Dallas, Lambert, Brett, Kane, Ash and Parker who are on a space vessel the Nostromo which receive a distress signal from a planet LV-426, which they investigated to the crew's horror. Alien still gives me chills which is why I had to pay homage to such a classic movie.
The A2 sketch began as just Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) at the top of the piece of thick, mounted card, but I soon realised that I needed to add more than just Ripley.
'In space, no one can hear you scream'
As I added more depth and detail using graphite stickless pencils, I felt that the bottom part of the sketch should contain at least something from the movie other than the lead actress, which had to be the Alien. I sat sketching out rough drafts of the alien and decided as it was my first sketch of the classic movie franchise, that it should start with the alien egg. I'm really pleased with how this sketch turned out.
